New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday announced that 13 people, trapped in fake job rackets, have been successfully rescued and brought back to India from Myanmar. Around 32 people were rescued earlier while the 13 Indians who were rescued recently reached Tamil Nadu today.
"We have been actively pursuing the case of Indians being trapped in fake job rackets in Myanmar. Around 32 Indians had already been rescued. Another 13 Indian citizens have now been rescued and reached Tamil Nadu today," MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a tweet while sharing a picture of them.
Bagchi, in a Twitter threat, said that some Indians are still in the custody of Myanmar authorities for illegal entry into that country and legal formalities to bring them back have been initiated.
"Some more Indian citizens have been rescued from their fake employers and are in custody of Myanmar authorities for illegal entry into that country. Legal formalities have been initiated to get them repatriated at the earliest," Bagchi added.
However, Myanmar is not the only country where Indians are trapped in fake job racket as similar instancces have also come to light in Laos and Cambodia. Indian agencies in Vientiane, Phnom Penh and Bangkok have been helping in repatriating people from there.

MEA cautions against fake job offers

Sharing an earlier advisory cautioning people against fake job rackets, Bagchi said, "We would reiterate extreme caution in accepting dubious employment offers overseas."
The advisory, issued on September 24, cautioned IT-skilled youths against fake job rackets.
"The target groups are IT-skilled youth who are duped in the name of lucrative data entry jobs in Thailand through social media advertisements as well as by Dubai and India-based agents. Indian nationals are advised not to get entrapped in such fake job offers being floated through social media platforms or other sources," read the advisory.
"Before traveling on a tourist or visit visa for employment purposes, Indian nationals are advised to check or verify the credentials of foreign employers through the concerned Mission abroad, and antecedents of recruiting agents as well as any company before taking up any job offer," it added.
