Just a few minutes after retirement, former England skipper Eoin Morgan took up a new profession and he is set to be part of the star-studded commentary panel for the Three Lions' white-ball series against India and South Africa. Morgan will be joining the Sky Sports' commentary panel for the upcoming series.
England's only 50-over World Cup-winning captain, Morgan will be one of the biggest names in the commentary panel. The left-handed batsman revolutionised England's white-ball set-up and propelled the team to a title win in the 2019 WC. He captained the Three Lions in two 50-over WCs.
Morgan was part of England's recently-concluded tour of Netherlands, where he sat out of the 3rd game. After the series, there were rumours about his retirement and the news was confirmed by the England Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday (June 28).
But the fans won't have to wait for long to see Morgan as he will share his insights during the upcoming white-ball series. England are slated to host India in six-white-ball matches from July 7 to 17.
Just two days after the conclusion of the India tour, the World Champions will host South Africa in the opening ODI of the series on July 19. The SA tour of England includes 3 ODIs and as many T20Is. The Proteas are slated to play 3 Tests as well but Morgan is only part of the panel for the white-ball fixtures.
One of the greatest English captains, Morgan led the Three Lions to 76 wins in 126 ODIs. In T20Is, England registered 42 wins from 72 matches under his leadership. Morgan also played 16 Tests but didn't enjoy much success in that format.
He played his last Test match back in 2012. His previous first-class appearance came in 2019. Morgan is likely to be replaced by Jos Buttler, who has been his deputy for many years now.
