Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who's busy promoting his upcoming film Samrat Prithviraj, has been creating quite some buzz online, however, for all the wrong reasons. The actor was recently trolled for taking a dip in the holy Ganga and seeking blessings at Varanasi temple ahead of his film's release. Then, he got slammed for his remark about history books not including information on Indian kings. And now the Hindi film industry's star is being ridiculed for his comment about Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking Indian cinema to the global stage.
In a no-holds-barred interview, which has been in the news for two days now, Akshay was asked about his visit to Cannes and the international success of Indian films. Instead of recalling the films that garnered the attention of audiences and critics abroad, Akshay went on to talk about how PM Modi has put India on the world map.
"All thanks to our PM who has taken us in such a huge way internationally. Things changing for our country," he said in an interview with ANI. The snippets of the video interaction have gone viral on social media and netizens are trolling Akshay for his "seasonal deshbhakti" amid the promotions of his film.
A user wrote, "What Akshay Kumar speaks means nothing anymore." Another wrote, "Lol. In Cannes no Indian Movie was screened let alone a nomination in any of the category and acc. to Indian Cinema has arrived on Global Scene? Indian Cinema had it's Golden Era in 1940s to late 60s when Neecha Nagar was nominated in First Addition of Cannes."
"Bhai ab toh Chhod de chaatna. Sam khake man nhi bhara? Mtlb Kuchh Bhi?? Out of reference..." read a comment.

Akshay Kumar's film Samrat Prithviraj is set to hit the theatres on June 3. Ahead of the release, Union Home Minister Amit Shah watched the film and even praised it. Today, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will watch the historical drama, based on great king Prithviraj Chauhan, with his ministers at Lok Bhavan.
Helmed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi Kumar, it also stars former Miss India Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood.
