Ranbir Kapoor's much awaited Shamshera is all set to hit theatres on Friday, July 22. The film, which will see Ranbir Kapoor back on the big screen after a substantial hiatus, also has Sanjay Dutt as the antagonist alongside Vaani Kapoor, Ronit Roy, Saurabh Shukla and Ashutosh Rana.
The film, set in the 1800s, follows a dacoit tribe and their fight for independence against the British Raj and will see Ranbir essay a dual role. Needless to say, fans have high expectations from the big budget Yash Raj Films project (the film has been made at a budget of Rs 150 crore). However, ahead of the film’s release here’s looking at the top first day grosser of Ranbir Kapoor at the box office.
Recently film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the list of top first day grossers of Ranbir Kapoor's films. Topping the list is Ranbir's iteration of Sanjay Dutt in the latter's biopic Sanju, which raked in Rs 34.75 at the box office on its first day.

Coming in at second was the 2013 Abhinav Kashyap film Besharam which had Ranbir together with his parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor. The film raked in Rs 21.56 crore at the ticket windows on its first day. At third position is Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, with Rs 19.45 crore. The film had Ranbir share screen with his ex Deepika Padukone.
The fourth and fifth positions rounding of the list are Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Tamasha respectively. The 2016 film ADHM stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and earned makers Rs 13.30 crore on its first day, while Tamasha that hit theatres in 2015 eatures Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles and raked in Rs 10.94 crore on Day 1.
Meanwhile, as per a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film has sold around 23,000 tickets at the three national chains - PVR, Inox and Cinepolis - and ideally will be looking to close around 60,000 to 65,000 mark.
