Ponniyin Selvan 1 mints Rs 150 crore worldwide; Karthi expresses his gratitude in sweet note

Mani Ratnam's directorial Ponniyin Selvan 1 continues to roar at the box office. Karthi and Aishwarya Rai-starrer had a terrific second day with a total two-day gross worldwide collection crossing Rs 150 crore. The film also stars Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi in pivotal roles.

On Sunday (October 2), Karthi, who plays the role of Vanthiyethavan in the magnum opus, penned an emotional note on Instagram as the film crossed Rs 100 crore mark at the ticket window.

In his long note, he thanked Kalki, the original writer of the novel of the same name. He further wrote, "Words cannot express the immense gratitude I feel for this experience and magnificent journey as Vanthiyethavan. First and foremost, a big salute and all respects to Amarar Kalki for creating this magical epic, Ponniyin Selvan. A million thanks to our Mani sir for pursuing it all these years and crafting this unforgettable masterpiece. To Ravivarman sir, for being the driving force on sets and giving us never seen before stunning visuals. To our treasure, AR Rahman for making us ecstatic with his music.”

He also thanked the "fabulous actors and respected seniours" and the "foot soldiers behind the scenes". He ended his note by thanking his fans and friends who "showered them with love". He wrote, "It’s overwhelming to receive all your love."

Ponniyin Selvan 1 was released in theatres across the glove in five languages - Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. On Saturday, the film collected Rs 38 crore in India (all languages). The film collected Rs 27.6 crore in the Tamil version, Rs 3.45 crore in Telugu, Rs 2.85 crore in Hindi, and Rs 70 lakh in Malayalam. It earned Rs 70 crore gross worldwide on day two and the total gross worldwide collection is at Rs 153 crore.

Ponniyin Selvan 1 has turned out to be the best Tamil opening of 2022 with a gross opening worldwide collection of Rs 80 Rs. The film will be followed by its sequel next year.
