Mona Singh opens up on Laal Singh Chaddha failure, says Aamir Khan-starrer will be remembered for a long time

The expectations were sky high from Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha when it arrived in theatres. However, the Advait Chandan directorial could not perform at the box office. Mona Singh, who plays the mother to Aamir’s young Laal in the film, talked about its low collection.

Aamir Khan returned to the silver screen after a long gap of almost four years with Laal Singh Chaddha, a remake of Hollywood’s cult classic Forrest Gump. For the Advait Chandan directorial, Aamir reunited with his 3 Idiots co-stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh.
The trio, however, could not recreate similar magic as Laal Singh Chaddha proved to be a washout at the box office. The film has barely managed to touch the Rs 50 crore mark within the first week of its release. Mona, in her recent interview, opened up about the disastrous run of the comedy-drama.
Stating that Laal Singh Chaddha is just her third film, Mona said that she does not understand the business aspect and only focuses on what people have been saying about it.
"I am not a filmy person and don’t understand box office at all. This is the third film of my life. What is so satisfying is whoever has seen the film has only good things to say about it. That is what I take from it. I don’t want to think about the short-term things like how much money it made, that’s beyond me,” Mona told Hindustan Times.
She further added, "I am sure I am part of a movie which will be remembered for a very long time.”
Laal Singh Chaddha arrived in theatres with Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan. Both the biggies were expected to revive the ailing Hindi film industry but that could not be the case.
Sharing the 5-day box office collection of Laal Singh Chaddha, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#LaalSinghChaddha is rejected... #LSC *5-day* total is lower than *Day 1* total of #ThugsOfHindostan [₹ 50.75 cr; #Hindi version], do the math... Thu 11.70 cr [#RakshaBandhan], Fri 7.26 cr, Sat 9 cr, Sun 10 cr, Mon 7.87 cr [#IndependenceDay]. Total: ₹ 45.83 cr. #India biz."
Naga Chaitanya made his Bollywood debut with the Hindi adaptation of Tom Hanks' blockbuster.
