The new ball pair of Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Sen did the damage in its first spell.
While Shardul sent back Chad Bowes and Dane Cleaver, Kuldeep scalped 3 wickets in his first spell and dismissed Rachin Ravindra, Joe Carter and Tom Bruce. Courtesy of Michael Rippon's 104-ball 61, NZ A managed a total of 167/10 which didn't prove to be enough.
India A didn't face many hiccups and completed the chase in 31.5 overs. Captain Sanju Samson did the finishing job and finished off the proceedings with a six. The wicketkeeper-batsman reminded the fans of MS Dhoni, who is the most followed cricketer in the city.
Samson remained unbeaten on 29 off 32 and added a match-winning partnership of 69 runs for the 4th wicket with Rajat Patidar (45* off 41). Apart from them, Ruturaj Gaikwad (41) and Rahul Tripathi (31) made vital contributions.
India A did lose 3 wickets in the chase but it never seemed like they will fall short. With this win, the home team has gone 1-0 up and another win will see them clinch the series.
Led by Priyank Panchal, India A won the unofficial Test series and are now eyeing domination in the one-day series as well. Benched players like Tilak Varma, Rahul Chahar, Abhimanyu Easwaran, KS Bharat and Raj Bawa are expected to get an opportunity during the course of the series.
During the red-ball series as well, the home team rotated players after every fixture. The performers of the India A-NZ A series are expected to get a nod for the ODI series against South Africa. The Men in Blue will be without the services of regulars against Proteas.
