Udaipur: A man was beheaded by two Muslim men in Udaipur's Maldas street area in broad daylight on Tuesday. The killers made a video of the killing and shared it on social media. The said video went viral over the internet. The killers were seen making derogatory remarks and even threatened Modi in the video. Police have reached the scene and an investigation was underway. In view of the increasing tension in the city after the killing, internet services were suspended in Udaipur.
Notably, the victim, a Hindu who owned a tailoring shop in the Dhanmondi area near Bhootmahal in the city, was ambushed in what is being called premeditated murder. Around 2:30 pm two Muslim youth arrived at the shop on a bike. One of them held a phone to make a video and the other one pretended to give his measurements to the tailor.
While the victim proceeded to take measurements of one of the men, he was ambushed and brutally hit on his head and neck with swords. The whole act was deliberately caught on camera. The killers, Mohammed Riyaz Akhtar and Mohammed Gosh later confessed to the killing in a video with no remorse while brandishing the murder weapon.
The family of the victim alleged that he had made a post in support of the suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma a few days ago. It is being speculated that the killing was in retaliation to the victim's post in support of Nupur Sharma. Protests against the killing were reported from the city.
"We've talked to CM. Those involved be arrested & assistance is given to victim's family. This incident isn't possible due to a single person, it could be because of some organization. It's horrendous & failure of administration," Rajasthan LoP Gulab Chand Kataria said.
Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot condemned the incident and urged people to not share the said video on social media further.
"I condemn the heinous murder of youth in Udaipur. Strict action will be taken against all the criminals involved in this incident and the police will go to the bottom of the crime. I appeal to all parties to maintain peace. Strictest punishment will be given to every person involved in such heinous crime," Ashok Gehlot tweeted.
"I appeal to everyone not to try to spoil the atmosphere by sharing the video of this incident. By sharing the video, the criminal's purpose of spreading hatred in the society will be successful," he added.
The gruesome murder invited harsh condemnation from opposition leaders.
