Coimbatore: India's first private train under the "Bharat Gaurav Scheme" commenced its journey on Tuesday from Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore. The train between Coimbatore and Sainagar Shirdi will return to its origin station on June 19.
The train is scheduled to reach Shirdi on Thursday at 7:25 am. This train will stop at Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Yelahanka, Dharmavaram, Mantralayam and Wadi. While returning from Shirdi, it will stop at Mantralayam for five hours to facilitate the darshan of the famous temple in the town.
The train is operated by a firm named South Star Rail. Vegetarian food will be served on the train. Housekeeping service providers will clean the utility areas of the train at regular intervals.
The theme-based Bharat Gaurav scheme was launched by the Indian Railways in November 2021. The main aim of the scheme is to promote tourism by allowing people from India and foreign countries to explore the country's rich cultural heritage and historical places.
"Railway has leased this train to a service provider for a period of 2 years. The service provider has refurbished the coach seats. At least three trips will be done per month. It has a total of 20 coaches including 1st, 2nd and 3rd class AC coaches and sleeper coaches," B Guganesan, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Southern Railway, told ANI.
With this, Southern Railways has become the first zone in Indian Railways to get the first registered service provider under the ‘Bharat Gaurav” Scheme. The train comprises 20 coaches including 1 First AC Coach, three 2-tier AC coaches, eight 3-tier AC coaches, five Sleeper Class coaches, one Pantry car and Luggage-cum-brake Vans-2.
