Karnataka: Holiday declared in schools after Leopard sighting in Belagavi city

11 schools have been shut in Belagavi after a leopard was sighted inside the city. Locals spotted the leopard on the Golf Grounds near Club Road. The schools were shut as authorities from the forest and police departments searched for the animal.

Belagavi: 11 schools have been shut in Belagavi after a leopard was sighted inside the city. Locals spotted the leopard on the Golf Grounds near Club Road. The schools were shut as authorities from the forest and police departments searched for the animal, as reported by news agency IANS.
Recently there had been an incident of a leopard attack on a labourer in Jadhavnagar which prompted the authorities to be extra cautious. Hence, all schools surrounding the golf grounds were shut down, reported IANS.
People have been asked to be vigilant when they move around and children have been asked to stay inside till further information on the leopard is available, reported IANS.
Recently, in Bijnor a six-month-old baby girl, who was sleeping with her mother, had been dragged away by a leopard in Noorpur Arab village. The incident came to light when the girl's mother Firoza, was unable to find the infant upon waking up in the morning, as reported by news agency IANS.
Najibabad divisional forest officer Manoj Shukla said, "Pug marks and the blood drops suggest it was a leopardess along with its cub that took away the infant. We have been conducting a combing operation in the area, but have not been able to trace the child yet.”, reported IANS.
Another incident occurred earlier this week when a seven-year-old boy was critically injured after a leopard attacked and tried to drag him into the forest in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district.
The incident took place in Jujhaila village under the Hasanpur police station area of Amroha district, said, officials.
