Supreme Court's Landmark Judgement Over Marital Rapes: Married Or Unmarried Can Abort | English News

The Supreme Court made a landmark decision, interpreting the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act and determining that all women, including unmarried women and minors, are permitted to undergo abortions up to 24 weeks. A court led by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud recognized that married women may be the victim of sexual assault or rape. The Supreme Court was scheduled to decide today on the abolition of discrimination in the provision of abortion up to 24 weeks of pregnancy between married and unmarried women. "This entitlement recognizes women in their capacity as women, not merely as wives, daughters, or sisters," said Supreme Court Advocate Rekha Aggarwal. "Patriarchy is as prevalent among women as it is among males," says activist Khadijah Faruqui.#maritalrape #sc #latestnews
