Twitter has announced that it will start implementing a new design for its platform's video viewing interface that would let users see videos that appear in their feeds or tweets in full-screen mode. In order to view more videos, users will also be able to vertically scroll from the full-screen view. The company has also changed the explore tab, adding a video carousel function and moving user-interested tweets under a section called "Videos for you."
For iOS users who use Twitter in English, Twitter will gradually roll out the immersive media viewer with vertical scrolling enabled. According to the company, the video carousel functionality on the explore tab is now accessible to Android and iOS users in English. The business emphasises in its blog post announcing the announcement that it wants to make Twitter "the finest venue for video."
A link to actor Ryan Reynolds' tweet announcing the release of the teaser for his upcoming film Deadpool 3, which also stars Hugh Jackman, was also placed in the company blog post. Through the blog post, Twitter claims that 'fun movie teasers' will play a significant role in the media viewing experience on Twitter.
The decision was made at a time when major social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube have changed their strategies to adopt short-video formats and user interfaces for Reels and Shorts that are similar to those used by TikTok. However, Twitter has decided to just use the UI components of the TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube video-pushing strategies.
