Heavy rain hammers coastal Karnataka; IMD issues alert for seven districts

The central weather forecasting agency had on Wednesday warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in coastal districts of the southern state during the next two-three days. The IMD has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for Uttar Kannada, Shimoga, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Dakshin Kannada, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandhya, Ramnagar, Mysore and Chamarajanagar.

The IMD has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings for Uttar Kannada, Shimoga, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Dakshin Kannada, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandhya, Ramnagar, Mysore and Chamarajanagar.
For today, the weather agency has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning with strong surface winds over coastal Karnataka. The rest of the state will witness heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.
Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, along with his cabinet ministers and senior officials, today visited flood-hit areas in Bengaluru, which has been hit by heavy rainfall in the past couple of days. Heavy and incessant rain triggered flood in Bengaluru.
Bommai on Wednesday announced Rs 25,000 as compensation for people whose houses were damaged due to heavy rains in the capital city.
In its bulletin released on Thursday, the IMD said that in the past 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls occurred over Meghalaya, Coastal and North interior Karnataka, Kerala, Rayalaseema, Andaman-Nicobar Islands and Assam.
The weather office today again predicted extremely heavy falls over coastal and south interior Karnataka on Thursday and isolated heavy rainfall on Friday (20th May). Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala-Mahe 19th and 20th and isolated heavy rainfall thereafter, it said.
